Future Reunites With Pharrell Ahead Of New Mixtape

Future has reconnected with Pharrell Williamsand seemingly looking to replicate the success of “Move That Dope” ahead of his new mixtape.

The duo posed for a picture that was posted online by Skateboard P’s longtime collaborator Mick the Ruler on Thursday (August 22) along with the caption: “Neptune Pluto.”

The two originally collaborated a decade ago on Future’s Honest standout “Move That Dope,” which also featured Pusha T and Casino.

Despite his track record both on his own and as one-half of The Neptunes, Pharrell contributed a rare verse that echoed his braggadocious In My Mind: The Prequel era, with production handled by will-made-it”>Mike WiLL Made-It and P-Nasty.

Future has been teasing a new mixtape for a large part of the year, despite already dropping two full-length projects in 2024.

The Freebandz boss offered a promising update in May, writing on social media: “I can’t sleep until it’s complete #MIXTAPEPLUTO.”

It was originally expected that the mixtape would drop on May 10, but that date came and went without any music.

When teasing the May 10 date, Pluto took a shot at an unnamed rival by tweeting: “Fuck yo album Shit ain’t slappin like my MIXTAPE.”

The latter was interpreted by many as a shot at Gunna, whose One of Wun album was already scheduled to arrive on May 10.

However, Future’s tweet was later revealed to merely be a promo for his “Swear to God” collaboration with Tee Grizzley, which contains the lyrics: “Fuck your album, shit ain’t slappin’ like my mixtape.”

Hendrix has been at the epicenter of the Hip Hop conversation all year thanks to his Metro Boomin collaborations We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You, which have been responsible for producing Billboard Hot 100 number one hits, selling hundreds of thousands of copies and igniting the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

Future also used the albums to take numerous subliminal shots at his former collaborator and friend Drake.

On the title track fromWe Don’t Trust You, he rapped: “You a n-gga number one fan, dawg / Sneak dissin’, I don’t understand, dawg / Pillow talkin’, actin’ like a fed, dawg / I don’t need another fake friend, dawg / Can’t be ’bout a ho, ’cause we sharin’, dawg / In yo feelings, n-gga, why you playin’, dawg?”

It was speculated that the pair fell out over a woman but this theory was dismissed by Metro Boomin who said: “Yall n-ggas stop making stuff up for engagement and enjoy the music.”
