Singapore’s former transport minister, Subramaniam Iswaran, has been convicted of receiving gifts while in office, after he pleaded guilty before a local court.
The 62-year-old was initially charged with corruption, but prosecutors amended these charges at what was supposed to be the start of his trial on Tuesday.
Iswaran is the first political office-holder in Singapore to be tried in court in the past 50 years.
A corruption case involving a public official is rare in Singapore, a financial hub that prides itself with its squeaky clean image, and Iswaran’s case has gripped the nation.

In SG, public servants are NOT allowed to receive gifts or its seen as bribery. Meanwhile private companies some mandated that employees are able to take gifts but must declare OR leave it in office but dont bring home
@Luthaniel83
Seriously the amount he corrupted is in pale comparison to Malaysian politicians, Datos, Police. LOL

@francisseah6630
Singapore will not tolerate any form.of corruption whichever the amount ..All MPs and Public servants should well be aware that even a free plate Wanton noodle or a pint of beer can be questionable ..
Before going into public service make sure you must be prepared for all kinds of scrutiny, CPIB investigation and be prepared to be charged if you are not careful ..
We need only Saints in Government …blameless and as white as snow ..no kidding ..
@nicholasgoh3526
There’s more than meets the eye. He is a veteran minister so the prosecutor will not put him on trial if they don’t have solid evidence of corruption. Why did they change the charges now to something that looks more like a compliance breach- something that the ministry can handle themselves?

300,000 Euros? Peanuts! Probably a small fraction of the corruption, now ignored. Sounds just like the US justice system… 2-tier justice.

How many politicians went to jail for MRNA Vaccines?
@patlecat
Dictatorships are built on corruption. If you're trialed for corruption then it means you angered the ones in power and that's why they drop you. The court needs more time for defining the sentencing is probably because they're waiting for the regime to decide on it.
@Hustlewithhowie
That pronunciation 🔥🔥🔥

Initial I was going to question the story but I'm very impressed in their system . Pay them plenty but zero tolerance on gifts.
