Lebanon’s health ministry says at least 356 people have been killed andmore than 1,200 wounded in Israeli strikes today – the deadliest day of the Israel-Hezbollah conflict since 2006.
Israel says it is “broadening” its strikes against Hezbollah as citizens in southern Lebanon have received phone messages warning them to leave places used by the Iran-backed group.
Lebanon’s prime minister says Israel’s actions amount to “a war of extermination”, while Israel’s defence minister says strikes will continue “until we achieve our goals – to return the residents of the north safely to their homes.”
Fears of an all-out regional conflict in the Middle East have grown in the past week.

The Israeli government allowed Hamas to attack so they could neutralize them, and also set off a sequence of events that will eventually leave Iran isolated. The Gaza war drew the Houthis into the conflict as well as Hezbollah. Hezbollah has provided Israel with a cassus belli, while the U.S and others are depleting the Houthi arsenal in the gulf. This weakens Iran by elimnating or cripling their proxies. Meanwhile the Ukrainians are depleting the Russian military, diminishing its offensive capabilities. Look for something to happen with N korea next. The west is essentially destroying the next Axis before it can properly form. China, Russia. Iran, N korea, all have a common enemy in the U.S and the west, there is already cooperation and partnerships between these countries. Potentially the west hopes to avoid a war with China by isolating it and depriving it of useful allies.
