Arteta could be forced to hand 16-year-old debut against Bolton 

Mikel Arteta could be forced to hand teenage goalkeeper Jack Porter his debut when Arsenal face Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup third-round fixture tomorrow at the Emirates.

David Raya is doubtful for the game as he picked up an injury against Manchester City on Sunday, and his deputy Neto is cup-tied, having featured for Bournemouth in the competition before joining the Gunners.

Third-choice Karl Hein is on loan at Real Valladolid, and academy goalkeeper Tommy Setford, who is next in line, is also out due to injury and this could pave the way for Arteta to hand a surprising start to Porter against the League One campaigners.

Porter was named among the substitutes during the UEFA Champions League clash with Atalanta last week and could now be set to get his first taste of action with the first team.

The 16-year-old signed a Scholarship deal in July and is the current first-choice goalkeeper for the U18s, having started two U18 Premier League games this season.

He was also in goal for the U21s during their 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League 2 fixture played in August.

Raya is still yet to be ruled out for tomorrow’s game, as confirmed by Arteta during his pre-match conference today, but there is a possibility that the England youth international will man Arsenal’s goal tomorrow.
