New details emerge in Titan sub implosion

It’s been greater than a while since OceanGate’s ill-fated expedition to the wreckage of the Titanic within the Titan submersible led to 5 deaths. This date, a Coast Barricade investigation of what came about were given underway. Right through 4 days of testimony, fresh main points have emerged.

  1. Calling them "mission specialists" is like calling redditors "investigators"

  2. I watched 4K video of the titanic wreckage in great detail…from the safety of my own home. $500,000 a piece to “be next to it?” I wouldn’t have gone for free.

  3. Prior to the dive, difficulty arose with keeping the Titan horizontal. Descending through a fluid a craft cannot rely on free fall to arrive at its destination, but needs fins to control its direction of travel, which were lacking in the basic design. The point of failure was the brittle glue connection between the titanium cone and the carbon fibre hull. Even this expedition might have completed successfully. The Titanic was already in sight. However, the craft was descending faster than normal and an error in judgment resulted in the Titan touching the ocean floor sooner than expected and at an angle instead of landing flat on its platform. Even a relatively small jolt would have been sufficient for the epoxy to separate from the titanium ring. Epoxy glue clings tenaciously and it is almost impossible to separate two parts joined together with the application of heat, but when chilled near freezing the brittle substance cracks with ease from even a minor shock.

The junction of the cone to the hull should have been similar to that in metal plumbing pipe couplings with a convex rim of the cone pressing into a concave grove in the ring so that the more outside pressure that is exerted the tighter the seal, which would also withstand failure from the application of lateral forces. Bolts, in addition to glue. Primary failure was not due to the carbon fibre hull collapsing, but spread from the point of separation of the ring.

  4. "it was never supposed to be "safe"? That makes sense if no lives were going to be involved in the project.

  5. The only details required is anyone riding it was a fool.😊

  6. The Playstation remote control to control submersible going to abyss depths was the 1st HUGE RED EFFIN FLAG. the fact that wealthy human beings would've have known about before and seen a effin Playstation controller the day of and still board that sub for the trip to deep ocean depths is absolutely effin unbelievable. FOH. Stupid is as Stupid does.

  7. 3.77 km That is very deep. A human would be crushed down to the size of a hotdog faster than an explosion. And seeing as they more than 3 times deeper than Henry's Law would require, at that depth the air inside of the vessel would not have even formed a bubble. Even the air itself would have been instantly absorbed into the water.

  8. Narcissism is dangerous, Stockton’s ego killed these people,

  9. 1:00 Wtf?? Did he really just say 20 23?? How did no one catch that?

  10. Of course it could have been prevented. Is that a sick joke.

  11. “With exploration, there is risk.”

James Cameron and Victor Vescovo spent millions developing and CERTIFYING their FOD rated submersibles just to explore the Challenger Deep and World’s oceans SAFELY…

Rush’s comments about “safety hindering innovation” are pure reckless arrogance…

Safety actually contributes to innovation in more ways than it “hinders”.

  12. Yes, because obvioulsy we need an investigation in order to inform people that "with exploration, there is risk." Who knew????

  13. "Try to prevent similar tragedies from happening again." Try to find a way how to stop dangerous people like Stokton Rush.

  14. What are the new details?

  15. stockton rush was a maniacal lunatic. solely worried about making money instead of safety. this story from the hearings just gets worse and worse with each new detail released.

  16. This said nothing new

  17. would the crew have heard loud noises of the carbon fibre hull started to fail prior to implosion?

  18. Titan CEO Stockton Rush fired one of his engineers who wrote him a letter of concern on the reliability of the carbon fiber hull. Stockton was arrogant, naive, attention seeking, and put lives at risk for his “explorer” mindset.

  19. Still white color without algae or what.

  20. Can the media stop referring to paying customers as “mission specialists “

  21. Another success story of capitalism. So greedy to profit that they lied through their teeth and got people killed. One of the biggest culprits is dead, so who's gonna admit their part in this?

  22. I understand pushing limits, that has made humanity thrive thougout history. But we should never put peoples lives at risk to get there. oh and never get in a deep dive sub that is glued in place.

  23. “With exploration, there is risk.” = Rich ego denial

  24. "Ocean Gate has suspended its operations since the fatal accident." Well duh. The whole business literally and metaphorically imploded.

  25. You would have to be insane to think that there wouldn't be any kind of danger getting into any submersible and going to visit a wreck 2 km underneath the ocean. I'm sure there was concerns about the thrasher and the scorpion and those were both government approved subs.

  26. Why does the title say new details? These are the same details I've been hearing since the disaster

  27. 2:34 everyone has that understanding of risks already. That’s why most associated agencies , if not all, already take necessary precautions.
You ppl at Ocean Gate were the only ones making look like a park ride.
Like I don’t even know what were your qualifications, Renata to be part of the support team.
You guys did nothing afterwards losing communication. You waited 10 hours! Before you called the coastguards. 10 hours!
Simply, because you didn’t know what to do. You guys were not prepared didn’t have a plan at all.
You embrace the same philosophy of your CEO and looked stupid as he was. You guys entertained his stupidity and you are all equally responsible for those deaths.

  28. GOD BLESS! RIP TO THE INNOCENT VICTIMS!
OUR 47th PRESIDENT TRUMP IS ON MISSION FROM GOD!
OUR 47th PRESIDENT TRUMP WILL BRING WORLD PEACE AGAIN!
OUR 47th PRESIDENT TRUMP WILL MAKE AMERICAN PROSPEROUS AGAIN!

  29. Very Tragic 😢

  30. With exploration there is always risk. Give me a break. It had absolutely nothing to do with exploration. Talk about self delusional people.

  31. Some Extra Salt in the Wound to use a Government Submarine to find and film the wreckage of a Libertarian Submarine that imploded due to ignoring Government regulations 😂

  32. I don't understand why people want to go down that deep to see the Titanic, its just a rotting ship 🤷‍♂️ what is there to see

  33. Taking needless risks and assigning consequences to the “Danger is Inevitable” file reflects immature thinking and narcissistic behavior.

Ego killed these five, not system failures.

  34. I wish the news media would stop calling these people “mission specialists “.

  35. “With exploration, there is risk.” Ok, but that isn’t the full story of what happened here… this isn’t about an exploration that went awry, it was about an entire company being built on a lie for profit.

  36. most of the people on titanic that died were poor people. sure there spirits didnt like rich people messing over there grave

  37. This report really didn't reveal anything new other than 1 picture of video showing more. Otherwise, from day 1 people have been saying what was presented on this weak report.

  38. You notice that no woman set foot on this over priced, Jimmy rigged soda pop can. We are not usually big risk takers.

  39. That first witness….jeez.

  40. Meanwhile in America cops are executing judges.
Who cares about these self entitled millionaires and their carbon fiber submersibles

  41. The "experts" testifying are over emotional and barely understandable. How she can put it as "all exploration runs a risk" is disgusting and sad. Shame on her.
