New details emerge in Titan sub implosion

Prior to the dive, difficulty arose with keeping the Titan horizontal. Descending through a fluid a craft cannot rely on free fall to arrive at its destination, but needs fins to control its direction of travel, which were lacking in the basic design. Bolts, in addition to glue. Primary failure was not due to the carbon fibre hull collapsing, but spread from the point of separation of the ring.

You would have to be insane to think that there wouldn't be any kind of danger getting into any submersible and going to visit a wreck 2 km underneath the ocean. I'm sure there was concerns about the thrasher and the scorpion and those were both government approved subs.
