Dam collapse causes heavy flooding in northern Nigeria

A collapsed dam in northern Nigeria has caused severe floods in Borno state, affecting almost 1 million people, according to the state governor. Fifteen per cent of the state capital, Maiduguri, is under water. The dam was at full capacity due to unusually high rains, according to the state government. The floods have killed more than 80% of the animals in a large zoo that houses wildlife from lions and crocodiles to buffalo and ostriches
