Stagecoach fans left OUTRAGED as line-up includes singer who has yet to release a country album

Country fans were left divided over Stagecoach Festival’s 2025 lineup, which annually draws crowds up to 75,000 people.  

While its headliners, Luke Combs, Jelly Roll and Zach Bryan, are all well-established superstars in the country music world, many were left perplexed by a number of the artists that will be taking the stage at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.

This includes Lana Del Rey, who hasn’t even released her first country album yet, rapper Nelly, Goo Goo Dolls, T-Pain, Creed and Backstreet Boys. 

By the time Stagecoach takes place, between April 25 to 27 next year, Del Rey will have already dropped her highly-anticipated country album, Lasso, which is expected to be released later this month. 

She first teased she had a country album in the works back in in January at the Billboard x NMPA Songwriter Awards. 

Her pivot into country music comes after releasing a cover version of John Denver’s Take Me Home, Country Roads in December as well as performing a number of covers of popular country songs, like Tammy Wynette’s Stand by Your Man.

In April, the Summertime Sadness hitmaker teamed up with Paul Cauthen for a surprise duet of Unchained Melody during his set at Stagecoach after headlining back-to-back weekends at Coachella. 

Despite Del Rey testing the country waters for some time, one X user furiously tweeted: ‘Wait she’s not country [sobbing emoji] .’

‘She will never be Kacey Musgraves,’ another fired. 

A third accused her of wanting ‘to be a country artist so bad.’

A fourth admitted they missed when Del Rey ‘wasn’t obsessed with country.’ 

‘can Lana stop acting like a country artist and realize who she is,’ a fifth complained. 

Some fans, however, were supportive of her taking on Stagecoach and predicted she was going ‘to be amazing.’

‘That’s an unexpected but cool twist! Lana at Stagecoach will definitely add a unique vibe to the lineup,’ one raved.

A die-heart fan of hers even tweeted they would go to Stagecoach, despite not even liking country music, ‘just to see Lana’ and ‘pretend it’s Coachella.’ 

Others were frustrated to see she wasn’t headlining, but chalked up the decision to her not fully being ‘in the country genre at the moment.’ 

Last month, Del Rey, while speaking about Lasso, she assured her fans that her country album won’t sound too different than her other records. 

‘All my albums are somewhat rooted in Americana, unless it’s an album like Honeymoon which has a jazz flair, so I don’t think it will be a heavy departure,’ she told Vogue.

Del Rey continued: ‘If anything, it will just be a little lighter lyrically, and more pointed in a classic country, American, or Southern Gothic production — which again, so many of my songs already are.’ 

Lasso will be the hitmaker’s 10th studio LP, following her album Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd which was released in March 2023. 

Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.

Her song A&W has been nominated for both Song of the Year and Best Alternative Music Performance and Candy Necklace, featuring Jon Batiste is up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, leaving her with five nominations in total.

2024 marked a number of career milestones for Del Rey, including her first-ever headlining performance in the United States at Fenway Park and headlining Coachella. 

The alternative pop star earned rave reviews for her Coachella performances. 

This marks Luke Combs’ second time headlining the festival in the past three years; seen in 2019

Meanwhile, Jelly Roll (seen above last month) will be making his headlining debut at Stagecoach

Zach Bryan will close out the first night of Stagecoach 2025 (seen in June 2024) 

Her appearance at Coachella came a decade after she last performed at the festival.

She was previously set to perform in 2020, before the festival was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
